James Edward Pickett

James (Jim) Edward Pickett, 70, of Riesel, Texas passed away peacefully on January 10, 2024 surrounded by family.

Jim was born on September 14, 1953 to Wilbur and Joyce Pickett in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was raised in Waianae, Hawaii as the youngest of three along with Leah Tahiry (sister) and John Pickett (brother).  Jim quickly developed a taste for adventure and love for the outdoors early on in his life. That adventurous spirit would lead him into surfing, hunting, big-game fishing and camping. Jim served as a medic in the Army for five years and continued his adventures as a disabled veteran after his honorable discharge.

Jim returned to Riesel, Texas to be closer to his parents. There, when not driving a truck for Sherrod Services (17 years with the company), his island hopping gave way to kayaking, hunting, fishing, and camping.  In 1997, while camping in the area, Jim met his future wife Frances (and her son Earl Key) and created a tight-knit family with a shared love for the outdoors. The three continued their trips with various additions; including, Brittney Key (daughter-in-law), Marc Tahiry (nephew), and Zara Douglas (niece). Those adventures then catered to more family additions with Kaygan McIntire (grandson), Kaylee Key (granddaughter), Griffin Douglas (great-nephew), Evelyn Tahiry (great-niece) and Lane Tahiry (great-nephew) joining the fray. All of whom will deeply miss his generous and wild spirit.

A private service will be held by the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church Riesel. Checks can be mailed to: P.O. Box 509, Riesel, Texas 76682.
