Martha Sue Sockwell Weaver, age 78, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2024, at Ascension Providence Hospital in Waco, Texas. A visitation will be held on Friday, June 7th, from 10 am to 11 am, immediately followed by a service at Littlepage Funeral Home in Mart, Texas, with Pastor Jacob Cooke officiating. Interment will follow at Mart Cemetery.
Born on October 9, 1945, in Waco, Texas, to Edgar and Sue Mae Sockwell, Marty grew up in Mart and graduated from Mart High School with the class of 1964. She was adored by her classmates and went on to study at Baylor University from 1964-1965. She furthered her education with child development and psychology courses at McLennan Community College. On May 6, 1966, Marty married Jim Stafford, and together they had two wonderful children, Scott Stafford and Melissa Stafford Phelps.
Martha dedicated many years to her role as a receptionist at Waco Montessori School, where she was deeply loved by colleagues and students alike. She also enjoyed a fulfilling career at General Cable in Carrollton, Texas. Marty was a devoted member of the Mart High School Alumni Association, where she played a key role in organizing events and maintaining close connections with her former classmates. On December 5, 2011, she married the love of her life, Lloyd Eugene Weaver.
Marty had a passion for George Strait, roosters, the Golden Girls, animals, and most importantly, her family. She was a remarkable and deeply loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Preceded in death by her beloved parents, Edgar and Sue Mae Sockwell, Marty is survived by her devoted husband, Lloyd Eugene Weaver, and his three children, David, Steve, and Laura. She leaves behind her cherished siblings, Edith Gaiser and husband Richard Gaiser, and Edgar Thomas Sockwell. Her memory lives on through her children, Scott Stafford and Melissa Stafford Phelps, and their spouses, Amy Rogers Stafford and Steve Marvin. Marty was a proud grandmother to Brittany Kalajian (and her fiancé Joe D’Alise), Joseph Cooke (and his fiancée Alyssa Zwahr), Jacob Cooke (and his wife Brooke Cooke), Amanda Stafford, Neal Stafford, Alora Stafford, and Faith Stafford. She is also survived by her precious great-grandchildren, Jameson Leslie Cooke and Emerson Lynne Cooke.
Pallbearers for the service will be Joseph Cooke, Jacob Cooke, Neal Stafford, Matthew Roberts, Mike Henson, and Craig Ochoa.
Marty's warmth, love, and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
