Mattie Korb

Mattie Korb of Mart, Texas passed away Tuesday morning, January 23, 2024 at the age of 94 years. Mattie was born to Robert Gus and Anna Louise Pankonien at home on September 23, 1929 in Otto, Texas. She was the eldest of four girls who worked hard to help their dad on the family farm. Mattie would say that her daddy was never upset that he didn't have any sons because he had the hardest working girls in the county. Mattie attended Ben Hur and Mart High School and lived in Mart most of her life. She was a member of the Methodist Church who volunteered her time and gift of cooking on many occasions. She worked for Paxton and Roseann Littlepage at the Littlepage Funeral Home and as their nanny and became lifelong friends. Mattie also worked as a nurse's aide at the Park Plaza Nursing Home in Mart for many years. She was a caretaker to many friends and family members, giving of herself and her time tirelessly. She loved people and never shied away from the opportunity to contribute to someone else's wellbeing. Mattie married Ervin Korb of Mart on September 22, 1978. She loved working in her flower beds and especially loved her roses. Although the world will be an emptier place without Mattie in it, her friends and family rejoice with her as she finally gets to be reunited with her parents, her sisters, and the love of her life, Ervin.

Mattie was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin Korb; both parents; sister, Lydia Pankonien Glockzin; sister, Rosa Lee Renfro and husband, Rufus; and sister, Edna Pankonien Richardson.

She is survived by her wonderful friends of Mart; daughter-in-law, Ruth Korb Embry; grandsons, Butch Korb and wife, Sheila, Ronny Korb and wife, Nicki, and Bryan Korb and wife, Theresa; nephews, Jerry Glockzin and Tommy Glockzin; and great grandchildren, Ashlie, Ryan, Joshua, Madison, Garrett, Jared, Brandon, and Jade Korb.

A visitation honoring Mattie will be held Friday, January 26th at 10:00 a.m. followed by the funeral at 11:00 a.m. at the Littlepage Funeral Home, with Reverend Amy Anderson presiding. Burial will follow at the Mart Cemetery where Mattie will be laid to rest next to her parents and sister.
